The game begins with the player for a deadly battle priceless stash of supplies in the gladiatorial tournament that Handsome Jack has created for their entertainment. Player succeeds and gains fame, but Handsome Jack sees it as a threat to its popularity among the people. At the end of the tournament, he throws the player and leaves him for dead in the tundra. Mysterious Guardian Angel from the first game is associated with the player and tells him that Handsome Jack must be killed and for that instructs the player to save the four players from the original game from the clutches of Hyperion.
